ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Progressive Fine Dining | New York City

Full-Time | In-Person | $100,000 – $110,000 + Bonus

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A progressive Indian fine dining restaurant in New York City is seeking an experienced, hospitality-driven Assistant General Manager to immediately contribute to the dining room and strengthen the service team. Led by an acclaimed chef, this intimate and highly focused operation explores the diversity and depth of Indian cuisine through a refined tasting menu — combining traditional Indian flavors and techniques with a contemporary fine dining approach.

The restaurant operates with 12 tables and approximately 50–60 covers per night. Service is highly structured, detailed, and demanding, with a significant level of guest interaction throughout the experience. Every table, course, transition, and guest interaction matters.

This is a hands-on floor leadership position — not a primarily administrative role. The ideal candidate must have Michelin-starred restaurant experience and a deep understanding of high-level tasting-menu service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain a strong, visible presence on the dining room floor throughout service
• Understand the structure, pacing, and demands of tasting-menu service and anticipate the needs of the room
• Actively orchestrate service and ensure smooth communication between the dining room and kitchen
• Support the team during service and step in wherever needed to maintain standards
• Lead by example with professionalism, composure, urgency, and genuine hospitality
• Build trust and credibility with the FOH team through consistency, communication, and hands-on leadership
• Coach and develop staff through daily floor presence and constructive feedback
• Handle guest interactions and service challenges with confidence, warmth, and emotional intelligence
• Work closely with the General Manager and Chef to maintain and continuously improve service standards

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Michelin-starred restaurant experience — required
• Proven experience in fine dining and tasting-menu service
• Strong understanding of the mechanics, pacing, and rhythm of high-level tasting-menu service
• Strong and confident floor presence with excellent timing, awareness, and attention to detail
• Ability to actively support and elevate a team rather than simply supervise it
• Confidence to take ownership during an intense service and make decisions in real time
• Strong hospitality instincts and a genuine passion for the guest experience
• Humility, emotional intelligence, and a willingness to lead by example
