Sports Reporter – Yuma Sun | Yuma, Arizona
Wanted: One creative, innovative sports reporter in sunny Yuma!The Yuma Sun , the daily newspaper serving Yuma County, Arizona, is looking for an energetic, community-minded Sports Reporter who is passionate about local athletics and storytelling across multiple platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity to cover high school, junior college and community sports while helping shape the future of local journalism through print, digital, video and podcasting.
What You'll Do - Cover local high school, junior college and community sports, including game coverage, feature stories and breaking news.
- Develop enterprise stories that highlight athletes, coaches, teams and the impact of sports throughout the community.
- Capture photographs and video to accompany stories.
- Create engaging content for the Yuma Sun website and social media platforms.
- Assist with podcasts, video interviews and other multimedia storytelling projects.
- Build relationships with coaches, athletic directors and community leaders.
- Work collaboratively with editors to deliver timely, accurate and compelling journalism.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is curious, dependable and eager to learn. Experience in sports reporting is preferred, but we are equally interested in candidates who demonstrate strong writing skills, sound news judgment and a willingness to embrace new storytelling techniques.
Qualifications include: - Excellent writing and interviewing skills.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Photography and video skills are a plus.
- Familiarity with social media and digital publishing.
- Willingness to learn podcasting, video production and emerging journalism tools.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
